Hey all,

I'm just starting this road map to various ways to learn about using textures and graphics. I had a lot of video tutorials on the old blog, but that blog has a lot of broken links so I'll be creating new tutorials. I also wanted a place where I can update things more easily than documentation included with downloads.

Overlays

Masks

The Files

• These are transparent PNG files. Most programs support PNG files. Some older image browsers may not show them correctly and they could appear choppy. Once you open them in your image processing software such as Photoshop and Elements, they will be fine. Earlier versions of Adobe Lightroom (before 4) do not support PNGs.
• Note: Most of our mask files are in grayscale color mode, so you will need to place them into a document with a color mode like sRGB to work in color.

Using as Masks

Place the mask in the layer under the image you want to clip. With the image layer selected, hit Command +  Option + G (Mac) or Control + Alt + G (PC) This will clip your image to the mask. Resize the mask or image to fit the way you wish.

Using Masks as Color Overlays

To use as an overlay and change the color, place a solid color adjustment layer above the mask. Select the color adjustment layer and clip it to the mask using the same keyboard commands Command +  Option + G (Mac) or Control + Alt + G (PC).
